Time to Conduct Some Emotional Spring Cleaning

With the spring season just days away many people are preparing to take part in spring cleaning around their home or office. This is a great way to get rid of the clutter, donate items to a good cause, and give your home a thorough cleaning. But, did you know that you can do yourself a favor and perform emotional spring cleaning? With so much on the schedule these days it's hard for people to find the time to truly explore their emotions. Now is the time to do so since you already have spring cleaning on the brain.

Put Your Thoughts on Paper

A great way to do some spring cleaning for your emotions is to put your thoughts onto paper. Set aside time each day to write. Buy yourself a journal and make sure no one sees it. You should write down anything that comes to mind, even if it is sad, rude, crass or filled with anger. Most of what you write down will not make sense, but you will feel better when you are done. This is a different type of journaling that you should take seriously. It can help you clear your mind of negative thoughts, ultimately moving you to a more positive outlook on life.

Remove Negative Thoughts by Adding Positive Ones

Now you can begin to remove negative thoughts from your mind by adding in positive ones. If you constantly deal with sadness, anger, jealousy, regret, guilt, fear and shame you need to force them out of your emotions. Add in feelings of happiness, success, courage, confidence, love and empowerment. This will take some time to accomplish but the more positive feelings and thoughts you entertain, the fewer negative ones will remain in your mind.

Renew Your Connections to the World

The spring season is great time to renew your connections to the world. This can be as simple as holding the door open for someone at a store or saying thank you to a cab driver or retail worker. It could also mean taking long walks outdoors to enjoy nature. Maybe it means you will spend more time with your family or friends. Maybe you will call an old friend and reconnect. You should also try to get out of your comfort zone. Consider sleeping under the stars for one night or dancing in the rain. You will feel an energy like never before that will help you have a better outlook on life.

Create a 'Win' List

Have you ever heard of a 'win' list? This is a list that you keep that documents each time in life where you responded positively to a situation. Your response can include spoken words, body language, physical reactions and anything else that can be deemed as positive. The more wins that you can add to the list, the more of a positive life you will lead.
