Checking in on Your New Year's Resolutions

With the month of February coming to a close we wanted to check in on your New Year's resolutions.

Are you still sticking to them?

Did you give up two weeks into January?

Did you make it an entire month?

Are you planning to resume them in March?

Let's be honest here; New Year's resolutions are difficult. Our lives are filled with so much these days that we rarely have time to do things for ourselves, which is what resolutions are, changes to the way we live.

There are quite a few reasons why you might have backed away from your resolution. Maybe you set too high of a goal. Maybe the goal didn't have a clear plan. Maybe the goal was too simple and you reached it not long after the clock struck midnight. Whichever reason it is, there's still time in 2018 to accomplish what you set out to do.

Here are some tips for revising your New Year's resolution so you don't give up altogether.

Overestimated What You Can Do

This is a common occurrence when people set their resolutions for the New Year. They aim too high for what they can actually accomplish or have the time to accomplish. You need to be real with yourself and your schedule. Find a happy medium that fits into your busy life and make an adjustment to your resolution. For example, maybe you said you'd hit the gym four times per week and have only been able to make it two or three times per week. Adjust to the number that you KNOW you can hit.

Goal Was Too Broad

It's quite possible that you came up with a resolution that was just way too broad. This can lead to frustration because the goal is not within reach. If you are someone who always expects perfection you will be very disappointed when you fail. You need to adjust the resolution so that success is inevitable when you work towards hitting the resolution.

You Gave Up Entirely

Don't ever give up completely on your resolution. There are little things in life that are just bumps in the road that get in your way. Don't let these bumps cause you to give up completely. Take a long look at yourself in the mirror and be honest. Did you really try hard enough? Are you being lazy? Do you expect the resolution to take care of itself? Are you making excuses? Can you adjust to be successful?

Don't let your New Year's resolutions disappear into thin air. Keep working hard on reaching them so you are happy with the outcome.
